Cody - Senior Portraits

Cody was one of my more challenging sessions. He is about 6'5" and I am 5'4". I had to use my ladder for all of his shots. Cody attends Shelby High School and is one of our star athletes. He plays football, basketball and baseball. I am really excited for him as he has signed on at Ferris State University to play football. This is a big deal for our small town. "Congratulations and I wish you the best at Ferris!" Thank you Cody and Monica for trusting me.

Tessica is a sweetie from Holton High School. We were hoping for a nice sunset out at the lake but it was cold and windy with a white sky. As a backup plan we ventured into the woods and found some nice fall leaves. Tess was a little shy at first and it was difficult to get a nice smile from her. Then I figured it out. Whenever I made reference about a certain boy, she smiled! After that it was easy to make her smile! Thanks Tess and Cyndi for choosing me to be your photographer!

OH NO! My website is down...I am currently switching my web host to a host that can handle my new upcoming addition. I won't reveal to many details but I am excited. Meet Jodi...she attends Shelby High School and plans on attending Hope College in the fall. Jodi is the 2009-2010 Shelby High School Homecoming Queen. She loves dance, acting, singing and basketball! It is not uncommom to see Jodi all dressed up in something fabulous and the next minute out on the court playing hoops! She also has the prettiest blue eyes! Meet Candidate Kim Morden. Read on to know why she wants to be our local Mrs. Asparagus.
"I am running for the title of “Mrs. Asparagus” for two reasons, first to advocate for the festival and secondly to campaign for and educate people about the asparagus industry. When I ran for the title three years ago and received the honor of being the runner-up under Heather J.R. Green, my reason for running was purely to promote our struggling asparagus and agricultural industry. Since then, the festival has been in jeopardy due to budget concerns and a lack of volunteers. The National Asparagus Festival has become an annual tradition that many local residents and tourists look forward to each year. It is an important community event and if we wish it to continue, money must be raised, volunteers need to be found, and the requirements of the NAF board must be made known. As queen, I could help make this happen. I will attempt to acquire grant funds or donations and assemble a volunteer task force and advocacy group through a creation of a web based blog or interactive web page. To achieve my second goal, I will use my skills as an educator, to visit area school districts to teach children about the importance of the asparagus industry and the rich history our area has in asparagus production. I will make local, state-wide, and even national appearances, if possible, to lobby for growing, selling and eating home grown asparagus. I believe “Mrs. Asparagus 2010” needs to be passionate about the industry and festival. As a lifelong resident, who has her roots firmly planted in Oceana County, that passion is home grown in me."

Well it is that time of year and preparing for our local Asparagus Festival keeps many people very busy. I am privileged to be photographing the 2010 candidates for Mrs. Asparagus. This week I will be posting all of the candidates so check back. Our first candidate is Crystal Morden. I asked her why she wanted to be our Queen and here is what she said...
"I would like to help the asparagus farmers as well as the county in general by representing them as Mrs. Asparagus. Up until a few years ago, I lived in Oceana County. I have always enjoyed the natural beauty of the land and grew up on a fruit farm in Shelby. I remember going to the Asparagus Festival every year to watch the parade, ever since I was a little girl. I would be honored if I were chosen to represent the county at other festivals. I love to travel, get dressed up, and I would love to get the word out about asparagus and Oceana County."

I did my first ever holiday promotion at the studio. I was very pleased with the turnout and flow of traffic in the studio. Heber Springs, Arkansas

Having a great time in Heber Springs! Went to a cool spot and captured this image. This dam is a historical site. It was the location of the last public appearance of John F. Kennedy before his death.

I love this! Mirror images can be quite interesting. I took about 30 pictures of this spot trying to get the exact capture of water and land. It was quite difficult waiting for the breeze to die down so the water would be smooth.

This is Michael my first guy of the Class of 2010. He had some connections at Mac Woods Dune Rides and we were able to go to some private spots on the shores of Lake Michigan. Brittany is the first of my 2010 Seniors. She was also the winner of the Shelby High School Post Prom Senior Picture Package! Congratulations! We went to Muskegon for an Urban Session. It was 99 degrees out but she was a trooper. When I said "work it baby..." she did! We had a lot of fun. I even tried some of my new lighting I learned in Nashville last fall! Believe it or not these images were shot in full sun! Cool huh? We still need to do her studio session and I have some awesome things planned.

In Memory of Daniel Earl Hasty, D.D.S.

Today I celebrate the life of a man who touched my life greatly. Dr. Hasty...He died last Saturday at the young age of 62. Today is his funeral. He was loved by so many people and lived his life right. By right I mean...he walked the talk...he lived for Jesus. Everything he did, he did to glorify God. For me this was big...I worked for him for 5 years and he was joyful, caring, consistant, wise, a leader, a teacher, respectful, loving, prayerful, enthusiastic, and generous. He was a mentor and role model...I will miss Dr. Hasty and our special talks about life...I start a new chapter in my life with wonder of what God has planned and will continue to pray for his wife and children. When I was a little girl my grandma used to sing this song..."I'd Rather Have Jesus". I dedicate this song to Dr. Hasty as it truly describes him and what his life was like.

Hart High School Prom

Prom season is here and I LOVE PROM! Here are the images from Hart Prom which was held on April 25th at the Best Western Pentwater Trace Inn & Suites. They also had a pretty cool DJ named David Walley from Good Music DJ. From what I could tell it looked like the kids had a great time and everyone looked FABOULOUS! Double JJ Ranch

Near our house is a wonderful place called Double JJ Ranch. Year round this ranch has been a big part of our lives with 8 years of memories for our family. Our kids have been growing up on the ranch with many friends including staff. Double JJ has many activities including a weekly rodeo, live stunt shows, horse shows, the Gold Rush Indoor Water Park, outdoor swimming pool, outdoor waterslide, arts & crafts, snow dog farm, snow dog winter races, petting farm, horsback riding, The Thoroughbred Golf Course, winter tube hill, camping and several places to eat. Last summer we were told the ranch was bankrupt and our membership would come to an end. I actually cried at the loss of future memories for our family. With the economy in Michigan it was looking pretty grim as far as finding a buyer for Double JJ well, it was announced this week there is an offer to buy our beloved place. This is great news! I look forward to a hopeful re-opening Memorial Day Weekend!

Well it was extra special doing this portrait session! I had a chance to watch this young lady grow up! She was a helper in my Brownine troop eons ago. As a girl scout she achieved Girl Scouts highest honor, the coveted "Gold Award". This award is the girls version of the Eagle Scout Award. Last year Michelle had some obstacles to overcome but she made it through. I am very proud of her. Congratulations on your graduation! Shelby High School's Production Art Class presented "Flowers for Algernon" over the weekend. I went on friday evening and enjoyed it so much I had to go back and take pictures. For a small rural school we have some great talent. I have to give credit to our director Kristi Stariha who works very hard to teach her passion of acting to her students at Shelby High School. It sounds funny but asparagus is serious business when you live in Oceana County. So serious that we have a national festival celebrating the harvest of it. Last Saturday was the Sadie Hawkins Dance put on by the girls basketball team. There was a horrible winter storm so I think there were a few kids that could not come. All in all I think it was a fun night and everyone was glad it didn't get cancelled again. I was there taking formal pictures and had a chance to do some candid shots as well.

I decided to try and shoot some basketball games so last friday I went down to the school and watched the Varsity Girls put a hurtin' on Ravenna. It was fast action and more difficult than I thought. Sara is a senior at Brandon High School on the east side of Michigan. Her family comes to Silver Lake every year for vacation and I had the honor of doing her senior pictures. What can I say? Sara is a real sweetie and loves the water. Thank goodness for the internet and online proofing to get this job done. Here are Sara's custom designed wallets. I think they are fantastic.

I've been very busy. If I'm not in my studio creating portraits I am at home retouching files and ordering prints. It leaves little time for my new site. I have decided to dedicate 1 hour a day to working on it. It will be quite nice when it's finished and I will be very proud. With a little help from my friend Shawn Von Inns and my hubby I have managed to learn html code. I am getting excited as it is finally coming together. It won't be long now. Most of the content is done. I am currently learning how to add photos to it. What fun! Learning html code can be addicting.

I am taking time to reflect and refresh. I am currently working on goals for 2009 and I have quite a few. I have listed a few I am working on right away.

Get better and faster at Retouching so I can turn around my work quicker. I have purchased some new computer softeware and have learned some new tricks to speed things up.
Blog, Blog, Blog. It's fun and it will make it easy for my clients to see what I've been up to.
New Website-coming very soon.
Get proficient at new flash techniques for weddings and portraits. You might see me out and about practicing in town. If you see me...Say hi!

Megan - Senior portraits

Megan is a senior at Shelby High School. She is also a very good athete. I have enjoyed watching Megan play Volleyball and Basketball. She will missed on the courts next year. Good luck to Megan and thank you for choosing me to do your photos. I enjoyed it!

Father Daughter Dance

Our local Rotary Club and Community Education sponsor a Father Daughter Dance every Christmas. I've been doing the photography for it for several years now. It's fun being there and seeing the girls dressed up. One thing for sure they grow up fast. I enjoy seeing the girls from year to year. Here are few photos of some of them.

Sugar & Spice

Bruce and Nancy came in for a portrait with their new babies, Sugar and Spice. Sugar, she's the tiny one in the back and her brother Spice laying in the front. Aren't they cute? The proud parents were very excited to include them in their Christams card this year. This was a fun session and I think Sugar and Spice liked it a lot! Thank you Nancy & Bruce!

Tae Kwan Do Center

Today I got to shoot at Kang Duk Won a Tae Kwan Do center in Muskegon. They were doing testing for belts. It was pretty exciting watching the kids earn them. The most fun was watching them break boards with a kick! Here's a great shot of a little guy breaking his board! Way cool! You should have seen his face when he saw it break. If you have any events you would like me shoot just give me call.

Yesterday I did a senior session with Jarod from Whitehall High School. Jarod is 6'3" tall so I had to stand on my ladder for a lot of his shots. His grandma came to watch and I took some photos of him and grandma! It was a successful session and I hope he loves his baseball pictures. They Rock!

Kaitlin Walker - Nashville

I just returned from Nashville. I went for a week to a photography workshop. What an experience! WOW! I learned so much in many areas of photography including fashion and glamour, high school seniors, photoshop and marketing.

The people there were great and I made some nice friends. I had a chance to meet a beautiful and talented young lady named Kaitin Walker and she just signed a country music record contract. How cool is that? Her website is kaitlinwalker.net She was a real sweetie and was our model during my fashion workshop. Here two of the portraits I took of her. Good luck to Kaitlin!

I'm a photographer in Shelby, Michigan serving Muskegon, Whitehall, Montague, Hesperia, New Era, Shelby, Pentwater and Ludinton area. I do all types of photography but I specialize in weddings and high school seniors.

I am a member of Professional Photographers of America and being a member requires that you continue to learn and educate yourself in photography. I go to many seminars throughout the year and I am always looking for new techniques to keep my photography current and trendy.
